re:pixel (pxl.party) is a shared pixel-art site, with Terms of Service. This page explains what we collect, why, who else is involved, how long we keep it, and your rights under the GDPR. We keep collection to what the site needs.
Who is responsible
The data controller is the owner of pxl.party. Contact: the site owner, through our Discord server.
Cookies and storage in your browser
Signed-out visitors get no cookies. We never use advertising or analytics scripts (no Google tag, no tracking pixels), and the fonts are served by pxl.party itself. The only third-party content is YouTube’s video player in the TV Room, and only after you agree to it (below).
| What | Why | When / how long | Consent |
|---|---|---|---|
Sign-in cookies (session, flow, device) | Signing you in and keeping you signed in; protecting sign-in from abuse (a random device identifier) | Only when you sign in. Session 30 days; sign-in step 10 minutes; device identifier 1 year | Not needed (strictly necessary) |
| Pixels you paint before signing up, in browser storage | Keeping your art until you sign up; nothing is sent to us before then | 24 hours, or until you sign up | Not needed (a feature you ask for) |
| Your settings in browser storage (language, theme, palette, chat size, TV volume, templates on emoji drafts, emoji favourites…) | Remembering choices you make | Until you clear them | Not needed (features you use) |
Your cookie choice (repixel.consent) | Remembering your answer to this question | 6 months, then we ask again | Not needed |
Ad click ID and campaign tags (repixel.source) | Measure our ads: which ad or campaign link brought you here, so we can tell whether our ads work | From the visit you arrived on until you sign up | Only if you accept |
The first canvas you visited (repixel.arrival) | Remember the canvas you arrived on, to make it your home canvas when you sign up | Until you sign up | Only if you accept |
YouTube’s player (cookies and storage set by YouTube, on youtube-nocookie.com and youtube.com) | Play YouTube videos in the TV Room: when the TV Room shows a film from YouTube, it plays in YouTube’s own player. YouTube then receives your IP address and that you watched, under Google’s privacy policy | Only when you agree, in Cookie settings or with the button on the TV. YouTube decides how long it keeps its own cookies | Only if you accept |
You can change your choice at any time with . Withdrawing removes what was stored for that purpose.
What we collect when you have an account
- Account: the identifier your sign-in provider gives us (Google, Discord, GitHub), your username, profile text and picture, and the email address your sign-in provider gives us, with its domain and a keyed hash of it (used to detect duplicate or banned accounts). We never receive your password and do not keep provider tokens. Legal basis: performance of the service you signed up for; for the email address, also our legitimate interest in identifying abuse and ban evasion: it is visible only to the site's administrators, and each time one looks at it this is recorded.
- What you do on the site: pixels you paint (shown publicly with your name and time, as on any shared canvas), chat messages (public chat is public; private messages are encrypted when stored, and staff can read a private message only when it is reported; images sent in private messages are stored encrypted and without the hidden location and device details cameras add, and site administrators can view them to stop abuse, each view being recorded), pins, templates, achievements, ink drops and Gold. Legal basis: performance of the service.
- Who invited you: if you sign up through a friend’s invite link, we record that friend’s account with yours, to award the badges for inviting. Legal basis: providing the feature you used.
- Security records: IP addresses and technical details of your device and browser seen when you sign in and use the site, to stop abuse, bots and ban evasion. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe. They are currently kept while your account exists.
- Where you came from (only if you accepted "Measure our ads"): the ad's click ID and campaign tags, recorded with a new account. Legal basis: your consent.
- Moderation records: reports, warnings, timeouts and bans, kept with the account, and private notes that permitted staff keep about an account, to enforce the rules.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare carries all traffic to pxl.party (and may show a security check). It sees your IP address and requests.
- Your sign-in provider (Google, Discord, GitHub) when you sign in with it.
- Discord: messages in the site's Global chat are also posted to our Discord server, with your username.
- The Internet Archive (archive.org): the TV Room plays films straight from it, so your browser connects to it while you watch.
- OpenFreeMap: the Open World's map is loaded from it, so your browser connects to it on that page.
- Dropbox stores backups of the site's database.
Some of these companies are in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep data
Account data is kept while your account exists. Detailed pixel history is trimmed after a few days (the latest changes of each pixel remain). Security records: see above. Backups follow the same data and are replaced over time.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to receive it in a portable format, to restrict or object to its use, and you can withdraw consent at any time (Cookie settings). Write to the site owner, through our Discord server.
